UK Trailer For Bornedal's JUST ANOTHER LOVE STORY

by Todd Brown, July 14, 2009 11:49 PM

I have just done a search of the Twitch archive and ended up shocked and appalled at the fact that we have never in these pages reviewed Ole Bornedal's Just Another Love Story - a stellar Danish noir-thriller that I've actually programmed at more than one festival. I love this film. I've programmed this film. And yet, somehow, I've never actually written about this film. I am ashamed.

But the chance for redemption approaches fast, with the UK's Revolver showing just how extremely clever they are by giving Bornedal's picture a theatrical release on British shores at the end of the month and we've got the brand new UK trailer to prove it. I feel like the level of action in this trailer is amped up just a touch too much compared to the tone of the film as a whole but the level of awesome is just about right. Have I mentioned that this is a great film? You'll find the trailer below the break.

Clearly something to look forward to! (We're not ALL 'horror' movie buffs, you know!)

I disagree Panduro and Brassyn. How is the story flawed? It's a neo-noir black comedy in vain of While you Were Sleeping. It's a genuinely tense atmosphere attaining triumph of film making. Everything is intentional. Watch The Candidate. That is a contrived, plot hole filled Danish film with typical written dialog, where the director totally had Michael Clayton in his head when writing. Ha.
I still liked Kandidaten(sp?) though.

For those with a Netflix account one can download this Thriller via their "Watch It Now" option.

We've written - a lot - about everything Boe has ever done, Brassyn. I'm a fan.

Aight, haven't catched anything about Boe on this site, but if you're on to him, way to go!

FF, as I said above it's been two years since I saw the film, so when I say the plot is flawed, it's because I remember thinking so when I left the cinema. To be honest, I don't remember many details. I think there's a general tendency, both in Denmark and internationally to glorify Ole Bornedal, but every time I go see one of his films, all I see are cliches.

Another thing is that I'm sick and tired of Anders W. Berthelsen playing the lead in way to many danish pictures (but hey, that's just me I guess).

Haven't seen Kandidaten, but I hate it because the film crew blocked my way, when they were filming causing me to be late for picking up my daughter.

Todd, I think that comment about Boe was meant for Panduro and not myself (I think, I didn't query Twitch's coverage of Boe).

ForgottenFilms, it's been a over a year since I saw the film so I'm afraid I cannot be specific as you might like. I think it's a competent film and it held my attention. Was I blown away by it? No. It's good but not amazing, just my opinion and overall feeling. Maybe I would benefit from a second viewing.

I thoroughly enjoy Danish cinema (when I can find it) and will happily watch anything with Nikolaj Lie Kaas in it so I certainly wasn't intending my original comment to be negative. It is worth seeing absolutely but it didn't knock me out. It isn't meant to be critical so say it that it is a solidly good film.
