Part One
Part Two

Boy, you must have a sad and boring life. Spending that much of your time writing about something you clearly hate. Either that or you think your funny...
...somebody sounds a little jealous.
Oh, I understand why Burton has a following, but that's the thing. He's just a name anymore, a label. Yeah, I'm a little jelous, I think it's fair people be critical of supposed "visionaries" who are thrown millions upon millions of dollars.
His films soley about meeting expectations of that fanbase. His hiring for Alice in Wonderland is so fitting it's absolutely uninspired. Burton used to be a terrific visual artist. But knowing people closely who've worked on Sweeny Todd, it sounds like Burton doesn't even actually design much in his films anymore. Crews are brought in to make the film look "Burtonesque." He's the very definition of the word "hack." Ironically, as much as Burton is celebrated as an aueteur, he couldn't possibly be farther from it. I've been told his directing style on set is. "sits in chair next to DP and nods head after take."
The script for Alice is so mind bogginly bad, but then again, so was Planet of the Apes, and Big Fish. Corpse Bride was a way to cash in on Nightmare Before Christmas' refound popularity with the goth kids and that was totally trumped by Selick's phenomenal Caroline.
Just wish someone else could have been given the oppurtunity to bring Alice in Wonderland to life.
Is Burton really a visionary? I never liked Edward Scisorhands, Bettlejuice has some fun parts but is nothing i would remember. Seems that all his vision boils down to gothic scenarios....and that's it.
