From swordsman to sky fighter, John Woo is set to direct his next historical war film about the Flying Tigers, a US air squadron that fought alongside China against the Japanese forces in World War II. The aviation war epic is a joint Sino-US production with a budget of 100 million US which makes it China's biggest budget film ever. The Hong Kong director last film Red Cliff was originally the most expensive Asian production ever. In true Woo fashion, the themes depicted will deal with friendship of the two people, culture, justice and courage. No cast has been officially announced yet but its expected to include Chinese and Hollywood actors.
Shooting will begin in December.

It will be interesting if this gets off the ground (heh heh) as this was an operation endorsed by the Nationalists and was a pet project of Chaing Kai Chek and his wife Madame Soong. Unless, of course, they are portrayed as corrupt villains.
Windtalkers wasn't bad at all. Sure it is no match to Bullet in the Head, but I give John a Chance, since I think it's more a Chinese Production, then a pure Hollywood P. like Windtalkers. As long as the script is strong and the actors are fine, what can go wrong? Red Cliff prooved that John Woo still has the guts.
Windtalkers is an awful awful awful movie, from the acting to the scripts, cast, and even the direction feels flat. It makes Broken Arrow look like a classic.
Red Cliff was good, i hope that Woo keeps that line.
I've always LOVED (not liked, LOVED) Windtalkers. I left the theatre in tears (European premiere during the NIFFF: www.nifff.ch). Everybody else in the theatre had hated it. I couldn't care less at the time, I still couldn't care less now.
I think Woo should do Chinese gunplay film instead. I am not interested in this film.
Windtalkers is a bloody terrible film. I wonder how long this project will last.
