Region Free Blu-Ray Gets Free-er?

by Todd Brown, June 13, 2009 4:42 AM

[And the lesson of the day is apparently gripe and you shall receive! The powers that be have taken notice of comments from those in Canada and parts beyond complaining that the free shipping offer was extended to the US only and are more than happy to give special treatment to those outside the lower 48 as well. All you need to do is send an email to support (at) hkflix.com telling them that you're writing about the Twitch special offer with your shipping location and they will send you a reduced-price quote. Good times for all!]

Thinking about taking the plunge into Blu-Ray but waiting for something to give you that final nudge? Well, how about this. We posted about the new region free Blu Ray player from Momitsu a little while back and now the deal gets a littel bit sweeter. Momitsu dealer HK Flix have just agreed to offer up free shipping to Twitch readers on the new player for a limited time only. If you want to take advantage, you'll need to click on the link in this post or one of the ads for the player running on the site and complete your purchase before June 22nd.

And, yes, I meant it when I said this is a fully region free player - handling both Blu Ray discs and standard def DVDs from all around the globe with minimal fuss and bother. But don't take my word for it ... the audio/video/technophile mavens over at DVD Beaver have posted a lengthy and detailed review of the deck here.

Funny though that this offer is only available through a Canadian site.

Pretty sweet deal, since players are not light. But sadly, I am in no situation to purchase a BD player at the moment. And by the time I will need to buy one, there won't be any decent offers like this. Sigh.

Normally I'd wait till there are MANY regionfree players and the price has gone below 200USD for some of them, but that Beaver review has me seriously enticed.

It's not just regionfree, it's a damn good player as well. Hmmmm.
And you might add that you get some free DVDs of choice with it as well...

But Todd, the next things I'd like you to negotiate with HK-flix are:

1: Twitch readers can order it from Europe with a fixed shipping fee of 50 USD (cheapest option). I'd take that in an instant!

2: A fixed 15 USD shipping fee (cheapest option) for Twitchers ordering from Canada and Alaska!

Ah, if only I had the monies. Momitsu makes a beautiful standard-def player - I would expect the same quality here. If someone picks one up, might you be kind enough to let us know what you think, perhaps in the forum???

Agent Wax, the shipping on this player is normally $9.95, so while paying $10 less to get this player is certainly nice, it's not like you're missing out on that big of a discount.

I've been dying for this player for a long time...

I wont buy a Blu-Ray player until they have matured just a bit more, and I would like to see an all-in-one that also plays divx and mkv files, if they dont already?

Just not that excited about Blu-Ray yet to even spend 200 bucks on a player. I would fork out 100 dollars though.

DVDguy - the actual movie is film mode 24fps, which can play on American TVs no problem. The extras are PAL, which the PS3 won't play. Won't, not can't. It COULD easily convert PAL to NTSC like the original XBox can... if only Sony weren't such dicks. Region coding isn't the issue here.

DVD-guy: yes. Chances are your television can handle PAL as well these days, but the Momitsu will definitely.

"apparently gripe .... complaining" Sorry a Canadian site promoting that a Blu-Ray "deal gets a littel (sic) bit sweeter" might offer something for Canadians shouldn't be a great surprise really. E-mail has been sent.
