Oh, the Spaniards. They're crazy.

I first became aware of writer-director Manuel Arija a few months back when his short film My Love Lives In The Sewers - trailer below the break - crossed my desk as part of my programming gig for the Worldwide Short Film Festival. To say that I was astounded by Arija's story of a young man who falls in love with a woman trapped in the sewers beneath his home via a series of encoded messages that appear on his toilet paper would be an understatement and, yes, I immediately added the film to my program.

Well, Arija is at it again. This time the film is titled La Pinata and all he'll really say about it is that it's quite short, was shot on Super8, and involves a blindfolded surprise. He did, however, send along a selection of behind the scenes stills that make it clear the surprise somehow involves a boxing mime. And, sweet lord, even the behind the scenes stuff looks beautiful. Check it at the link below!
