Chee Keong Cheung's BODYGUARD: A NEW BEGINNING Hitting DVD

by Todd Brown, June 14, 2009 7:33 PM

We first wrote about director Chee Keong Cheung's independently produced martial arts thriller Bodyguard: A New Beginning way back in September, much taken by the trailer which showed off the cast and style of the thing to great effect. And now those waiting for their chance to see the film have got it: the film hits DVD in the UK tomorrow.

Bodyguard: A New Beginning tells the story of Leung (Vincent Sze), the bodyguard of a Hong Kong Triad boss, Wong (Richard Ng), who is sent to the UK to protect a woman (Stephanie Langton) whose identity is known only by his boss. Even the boss' own errant son, Yuen (Carl Ng), is kept in the dark. The efforts of a rival boss, Kai (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) to take over Wong's territory leads Yuen to a betrayal that threatens to destroy all that his father has worked hard to protect.

Check the trailer below the break!

Looking forward to seeing this. Chee Keong Cheung did a good job on another independent picture, the martial-arts tournament movie, "Underground", also recently released in the UK.

I love martial arts films. I studied some of them in college such as Iron Monkey. This one seems like it's a good one too.

Ohhhh shit, the cast! The cast! I almost instantly died when I saw Richard Ng in that role, but against Shang Tsung? Jesus.

Nice! Looks more polished than a lot of well-budgeted films these days

Underground wasn't a bad film actually. But I guess anything with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is worth a watch at least once!

The last scene in the trailer was very Jet Li.

This looks flashy but the direction and editing, to say nothing of some clumsy-looking fight scenes, don't work for me. Maybe its just the guys who edited the trailer.
