Richard Ayoade Steps In To The Director's Chair For SUBMARINE!

by Todd Brown, May 18, 2009 3:36 AM

Over the past several years Richard Ayoade has become increasingly prominent in UK comedy circles, the afro'd comic scoring featured roles in Nathan Barley, The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd and now he is about to make a big splash in the feature world. And no, I'm not just talking about his role in upcoming feature Bunny And The Bull, no matter how stellar that one may look. Which is very. No, Aoyade is stepping into the director's chair to helm upcoming comedy Submarine with Paddy Considine and Michael Sheen both confirmed in the cast. Here's the synopsis:

Based on the successful and hilarious debut novel by Joe Dunthorne, Submarine is the comic coming-of-age story of 15 year old Oliver Tate. In his head he's a cool, literary genius, In reality, he's socially inept and unpopular. He has set himself two tasks for the summer - to lose his virginity (before it becomes legal) to Jordana, a pyromaniac bully; and to stop his mother leaving his father for her capoeira teacher.

Um, yes please? If anyone out there has read the book I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments thread.

I haven't read the book but I've been a huge fan of Richard Ayoade since Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. The premise doesn't really get my motor running but the idea of watching Paddy Considine act silly under Richard's supervision is exciting.
