that was quick. big surprise for me is christoph waltz, an actor I only remember from bad german tv movies :) that makes tarantino's new movie even more interesting, I'm anxious to see Hans Landa. And as an austrian I'm glad, M. Haneke gets his big prize. he certainly is worthy of it, no matter if you like his movies or not.

Should be a fun TIFF this year. Haneke always raises the hackles of the locals. As does Noe & Von Trier.

Brilliante Mendoza won Best Director. How the FUCK did that happen ?!?!?

user-pic

yeah i am amazed that mendoza won too. every review i read stated how much the audience hated his movie. can't wait to see it

user-pic

so far the most convincing reason offered, maybe from thewrap (can't remember for sure), is mendoza's direction was so good he rightly repelled people - as an inevitable result from his aim. the jury tried to explained themselves here, about 3:50" into clip:

"care to explain or just braindead ?"

That's how people call someone with a different opinion these days? I'm getting old.

user-pic

that's how you call people that back up their "no" with exactly NOTHING.

I'm scared to watch this movie.

That being said, it's the highest award ever received by a Filipino film or director.

Congratulations to him! But I still won't watch it, hehe.
