Guillermo Del Toro Casts His Attention On INSIGNIFICANT THINGS

by Todd Brown, May 7, 2009 1:00 AM

Apparently Guillermo Del Toro has been taking that whole "With great power" line from Spider-Man seriously. Ever since the enormous break through success of Pan's Labyrinth, Del Toro has been an incredibly busy man - not only with his own directorial efforts, but also seeking out talented film makers and supporting their efforts by lending his name, his money and / or his skills as a producer to get films made. And there he is credited as a producer on Andrea Martínez Crowther's Insignificant Things. Here's the synopsis:

Esmeralda is a teenager with an unusual obsession: she collects objects lost, forgotten or discarded by people she doesn't know and keeps them in a box beneath her bed. This is the tale of three objects in the box and the people behind them, all in some way incapable of relating to the person they love the most. It is also a tale of the box itself, and how Esmeralda learns to open it, to fell and to hoard the most valuable thing of all: human relations.

The synopsis immediately brings Amelie to mind, which seem to be borne out somewhat by the trailer, though this seems entirely a more serious minded film. Check it out below the break.
