Am I surprised that Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds has apparently joined Pixar's Up on the slate at this year's Cannes Festival? Not at all surprised that the programmers want it, no, since they've had a thing for Tarantino on the Riviera pretty much from the beginning of his career. I am however more than a little surprised that the film will be ready on time since he was still in principal photography in Berlin when I was there for the European Film Market in February. What does this tell me? It's obviously a film light on post-production, which means he has to have done the huge majority of action and effects shots live and in-camera. This makes Todd a happy boy. I feel a little squeemish about this trailer, but then I guess that is what Tarrantino is about.
