Good news for fans of satirist Armando Iannucci here. Fresh off the success of his feature film In The Loop - a sort of spin off from his satiric television series The Thick Of It - the BBC has commissioned a new, eight episode Thick Of It series to screen later this year. As is the norm with the show there is a new minister in place but the support staff remains the same with means more Peter Capaldi and more Chris Addison. Life is good. You're probably sick of hearing me say this by now but I'll say it again: Aramando Iannucci is arguably the greatest political satirist on the face of the planet today and this is his crowning creation.
After finally seeing In The Loop, I have to say that I was pretty disappointed by it...I'd rewatched all of The Thick of It a few days beforehand and still found the series extremely funny and clever, but thought that the film just didn't work as well...here's hoping it was just a problem with a feature-length adaptation and that this new series will still have the magic of the earlier series.
