You may not have heard of Indonesian film makers The Mo Brothers yet but if you are at all a fan of international horror then believe me: you will. The duo first appeared on the scene in 2007 with Dara, a stellar twenty minute short that plays like equal parts Saw and Audition and generated raves throughout their home country with its blend of gloss and brutality. In a country where horror films are cranked out fast and cheap by the dozen Dara showed a remarkably unique voice and attention to the craft that would have won raves anywhere. In fact the film won the attention of producer Brian Yuzna when he was setting up his fledging Komodo production house in Jakarta and Yuzna would go on to include Dara as the final part of Komodo's inaugural project, the horror anthology Takut.
What have the Mo Brothers been up to since then? Well, they've been hard at work on Macabre, their feature debut which reunites the cast of Dara for an expansion of that film's premise and story. Principal photography has just wrapped on the new feature and already there is word out there that the film may well be released in two varieties: a local version tailored to satisfy local censorship laws and harder edged international version. There's no official footage from it yet but we do have the trailer for Dara embedded below the break and a quartet of teaser posters at the link below. Watch for more soon!

Saw the "Dara"-sement in "Takut"-anthology and it is by far the most impressive segment of the whole movie. The Mo Bros' talent is EVIDENT and I die to see their next feautres.
They also appaear briefly in the magnificent Latest of Joko Anwar, "The forbidden door".
This went under my Radar completely. Looks and Sounds pretty decent. For what it's worth, here's my feeble attempt at translating what's onscreen.
Woman: "Thank you for staying and chatting. You can come to my place tomorrow evening... I'll make us dinner."
Man: "Tomorrow... Your place?"
--That Night--
Bald Guy: "What's that sound?"
--She-- (or He, not gender specific)
--Will---
Bald Guy: "Can you hear that?"
--Serve You---
