Full Trailer For French Zombie Picture MUTANTS

by Todd Brown, April 2, 2009 12:50 AM

David Morley's Mutants is a film that we've been following with great interest in these pages for a good while now. The young French director's previous short film, Morsure, is a great favorite and one that proved beyond any doubt that Morley has the chops to breath new life into old concepts and that is precisely what he promised to do to the zombie film with this, his debut feature. Now, having seen the film at the market in Berlin, I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that Mutants has some serious flaws but all the things that drew me to the director in the first place are certainly in effect and by simply slowing down the conversion process he has indeed breathed a whole new sense of dread into the zombie picture. And, if nothing else, he can cut one hell of a trailer.

Speaking of which, the first full length trailer for the film has just arrived on the scene today, joining the earlier teaser and you can find both below the break.

In a world devastated by a pandemic virus that turns human beings into primitive and bloodthirsty creatures, Marco and Sonia set off to find a secret base to escape from the "mutants". When the latter attack them, Marco is contaminated too. Little by little, he undergoes the same changes. Sonia, who is expecting a baby, is then forced to fight her worst enemy, the man she loves.

I liked the psychological horror that was shown in the first part of the trailer. The second part with its silly Hollywood action movie shenenigans was much less impressive.

Maybe it was just the presentation, but it started to feel rather conventional once the trailer moved away from the wife and husband, isolated and alone.

The second half of the trailer developed a very strong 28 Days/Weeks Later vibe. Which isn't necessarily bad in and of itself, but it's hardly new. Agreed, with other posters, that the first half of the trailer seems much more interesting.

Nothing wrong with an action filled zombie flick.
This looks great!

I actually liked what I saw. Of course, I will have to wait for DVD. :(
