I really don't know what to be happier about here: that we're getting a new Sam Mendes film without the customary lengthy wait, that The Office's John Krasinski is getting a feature role worthy of his talents, or that Mendes is working here from a script by the stellar Dave Eggers, author of A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius. That's a lot of good stuff in one place and - true to form - the trailer for the picture looks charming and quirky and sad and funny all rolled into one.
Krasinski stars with SNL's Maya Rudolph as a slacker, underachieving couple on a road trip to find a good place to put down roots and raise their soon-to-arrive child and, as with all Mendes films, the strength is in the character and execution more than in the summary so stop reading and start watching. The trailer is embedded below the break.

So let me get this straight, this is an original screenplay by Eggers? It is not based on any of his short stories or books?
Up until now, I've felt that Sam Mendes has been overrated and not terribly original. This movie might change my mind.
I believe this is totally original but couldn't swear to it since his short stories tend to get scattered across a lot of different publications and I haven't read them all. It's definitely not a novel, though. And I know he's been working on screenplays.
