i do hope nobody makes the mistake and buys a region-locked blu ray player. just like with DVD, such a thing (regionlock) does not come into my household.
are there no shops to buy cracked players in the US ?
there are many in europe.

Region A, in which the Blu Ray of Ip Man is formatted, includes the U.S. and China. I already snatched up my copy over at YesAsia. It was a bit pricey, but I am sure it will be worth it when I get it in the mail. I have already seen the flik on a DVD I got on the DL, great flik, but I am sure I will appreciate it more in HiDef.

DDDhouse has it listed as Region Free but I've never ordered from them before.

@Brown Jesus: I'm pretty sure SPL and Flashpoint were distributed by Deltamac, while this is a Universe release.

@bluesxman: I'd vouch for dddhouse, I've ordered dozens of discs from them and so far haven't had a single problem (although I've not paid much attention to the accuracy of their region listings). If you don't have access to a multi-region DVD player, you have three choices.
1) Risk it.
2) Get a region-free player (or see if there's a hack for your current player).
3) Wait for release, and keep an eye out for reviews of the disc.
It's worth pointing out that at least 95% of Hong Kong DVDs are not region locked, and even if the cover says otherwise there's a high probability that the disc isn't.
The reason that region-locking on a blu-ray isn't an issue in the US is that the regions are different. On DVD, US is region 1 and Hong Kong is region 3. On Blu-ray, they're both part of region A.

@Anoton_s: I have a Playstation 3 (European model), so I can't make it region free and I'm not willing to buy an extra Blu-ray player just yet. As far as I know, region free Blu-ray players are expensive? Not that it matters to me: I plan on buying a laptop with Blu-ray player in the future, and use software to make it region free.

yeah, making it region free afterwards is always a hassle and complicated. when i saw 200$ blue ray players in ads for the us, I thought, OK, now it's going mainstream. in europe you can find unlocked models easily but unfortunatley they are very expensive here. ~ 700 €
