A trailer for Ilion Studios' debut CG animated film Planet 51 has landed at the official site. Its a sci-fi comedy with a twist on the first contact theme where its the human who is the strange and creepy visitor from outer space. Among the voice cast is Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese. Here's the synopsis:
PLANET 51 is a funny reverse alien invasion story centered on the little green people with antennas who inhabit Planet 51, and who live in fear of being invaded by beings from another planet.When Astronaut CAPTAIN CHARLES “CHUCK” BAKER lands his spaceship, thinking that the no-one lives there, the inhabitants’ paranoia is unleashed and the real adventure begins. LEM, a young resident on Planet 51, who is fascinated by space the world outside, will help CHUCK try to escape from the authorities, recover his spaceship and return home.
Since our last report on this film, TriStar Pictures has taken over the distribution rights from New Line and reschedule the release date to November 20th. You'll find the trailer below after the jump.
Looks like a SHREK spin-off. I'm sure that's the idea.
Dunno how they did it, but this looks even worse than Shrek.
Well, the scriptwriter for Planet 51 is also part of the writers for Shrek and Shrek 2.
Other than the aliens bearing a physical resemblance to Shrek, I don't see the connection. Looks cute to me.
They did manage to take a personal avatar of childhood night terrors and turn it into a loveable family friend, so kudos to them.
