Because The World Can Never Have Enough Combat Sports Fims. An Extended Promo For FIREBALL

by Todd Brown, January 22, 2009 3:03 AM

Just to be clear, here, I'm not talking about movies about sports that involve actual combat. Sure, there's nothing wrong with a good boxing movie or a film built around a realistic martial arts tournament but what I'm talking about here are films like Rollerball or The Running Man, films about sports or public events adapted to combat. There haven't been many of those in recent years abut one's coming down the line in Thailand with Fireball.

Tai, a young man arrested on a crime charge, is discharged thanks to his twin brother Tan’s dogged help. After being set free, he finds Tan in a coma with severe injuries. Tan’s girlfriend, Pang, tells Tai that his brother got involved in some risky business to raise money to fight Tai’s case. Tai feels guilty that his problems brought his brother trouble. He then traces what happened to Tan, which ultimately leads him into illegal basketball gambling. Tai wants to find out who is behind this gambling and why his brother was beaten unconscious. He finally joins the “Fireball” team ...

It's full contact no rules basketball, folks, and it's brutal. The director also helmed the fascinating but flawed karmic hero film Opapatika and we've been tracking this one for a good while now, running the firt trailer a good while back. But now there's more: a nearly seven minute long promo reel for the film that mixes interview footage with the stars in with completed footage from the film itself and there's a whole lot here we haven't seen before. You can check both the reel and the original trailer below the break.

Sounds like a cool premise, the trailer could use some improvement, and i hope they're not using the same sound effects for the hits because they sound awfully generic.

Not too worried about the quality of the trailer as its cut from similar footage to the promo reel, but GODDAMMM does this look cool, and a million times removed from the likes of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Dunk. This is one of the reasons I tune into Twitch, to discover such gems as these...
