METROPIA is taking place in a not-so-distant, terrifying Europe. The world is running out of oil and the net of undergrounds has been connected, creating a gigantic web underneath Europe. Roger from Farsta (a suburb of Stockholm) tries to stay away from the underground. He thinks it’s unpleasant and he sometimes hear strange voices in is head. One day Roger finds out that his life is controlled in every detail. He tries to break free. To succeed he needs super-model Nina to help him. Or is it maybe Nina that needs Roger?
I've known from the very first moment that I heard of Tarik Saleh's Metropia that this had the potential to be something truly special, something truly unique. Those suspicians were strengthened when I came across the first images from the picture and strengthened even more when they cast Juliette Lewis and Vincent Gallo as the lead voice actors. And now this clinches it. We've just been sent three new stills from the picture and they are, in a word, stunning. They're doing something I've never seen before with the animation style in this picture and they're clearly aiming for something intelligent and sophisticated. And I, for one, cannot wait.

Either this is live action or pixilation which has been cut up and reassembled, Frankenstein-style (which in that case brings Nyócker!, Tachiguishi Retsuden and, most of all, the music video "Horny as a Dandy" to mind) or the filmmakers have gone to the bottom of the uncanny valley and started digging. The inspirations are Brazil, Roy Andersson and Yuri Norstein. Found an article in Swedish, and translated most of what was important. Then when I tried to post it: nothing. Which pisses me of to no end, mostly because I'm sick and should have gone to bed 3 hours ago.
The production company is called Atmo, the director Tarik Saleh, the producer Kristina Åberg. The run Atmo together apparently.
Here's the article if someone wanna translate some more:

I might actually redo it tomorrow. Too annoyed now though.
I've been emailing with Kristina for a little while, we've been promised a trailer soon.
Ah, nice. Looking forward to that then.
It damn well looks special. Can't wait for a trailer!
