The Twitch Video Player salutes John Carpenter!

by Andrew Mack, December 6, 2008 10:07 AM

As we are in the midst of transferring to a new service for our lovely Twitch Video Player we're still playing with the bells and whistles [what does this button do?] we're doing our best to provide you with non-stop trailer goodness. Egged on by the news yesterday of the impending remake of John Carpenter's They Live [why?] I thought one of the best ways to kick the tires on this new player would be to recount some of my favorite Carpenter films. Alas, I only have room for five trailers but there are so much more, it was difficult to choose.

So what will find after the break? John's favorite boy toy, Kurt Russell. The only reason I ever watch Sex in the City in my life, Kim Catrell. A man so cool and awesome he made wearing a dress almost passable. And then there is that signature synthesized music. Oh John, how you made my emotions rise and fall just by musical score alone!

Don't let me keep you. Follow the jump for Carpenter goodness.

Alright. Let's start things off with... well... The Thing.

Then we've going to chew bubblegum and kick ass, it's time for They Live

This is easily my favorite John Carpenter's film Big Trouble in Little China.

One of the best slasher horror films. Ever. Halloween.

And then top it off with the Kurt Russell hat trick. Escape from New York.

Funny because I just got an early Christmas present from a friend of DARK STAR last night; can't wait to watch it when I have time, though the fact that it is early Carpenter (ie: a student film, which would mean its rougher than even ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13) gives me some doubts; I fear it will be like CRIME WAVE, Sam Raimi and the Coen bros. student collab. which was so horrible I had to stop watching after 15 minutes. Yipes. Still, the fact that it has Dan O'Bannon co-writing it gives me high, high hopes as I love both ALIEN and RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Oh. CRIME WAVE. Yikes. Yeah, I remember watching that over at Todd's one night and we didn't make it through either. Horrid.

I'd managed to successfully forget about Crime Wave. Thanks.

I like DARK STAR, personally. It's pretty clever and they get all seventy-five cents of the budget up there on the screen. Love the alien.
