Drinking and sledding may be a very bad idea in real life - growing up north of Toronto you could count on a good handful of people crashing through thin ice or getting caught up in barbed wire every winter - but if Rune Denstad Langlo's Nord - or North in English - is any indication it can make for some compelling film. A drunken road movie in which there is scarcely any actual road, the film stars Anders Baasmo Christiansen as a former athlete recovering from a mental breakdown while riding his snowmobile across the country to meet the daughter he never knew he had with only a canister of moonshine for company.
North is a road movie comedy set in romantic natural surroundings. It is the story of the athlete Jomar who has isolated himself in a sad lonely existence after having a mental crises. On a snow scooter, with 5 litres of moonshine as provisions, Jomar embarks on a strange and dramatic journey towards teh far north, where his ex-girlfriend lives with his child that he just learned about. This turns into a weird expedition, during which he gets to mett other tender and confused souls, who all contribute to pushing Jomar further ahead on his reluctant journey towards reality.
The script is by Erlend Loe, who last wrote Gone With The Woman, lat year's Oscar and Golden Globe submission from Norway, and it looks like quirky, charming stuff. Check the trailer below the break.
