Gael Garcia Bernal And Diego Luna Reunite In Carlos Cuaron's RUDO Y CURSI

by Todd Brown, December 15, 2008 3:18 AM

Oh, those crazy Cuarons ... it seems like the whole family is making movies right now. Alfonso (Children of Men) is obviously the most successful of the clan so far but Alfonso's son Jonas shot two films in 2007, one of which - Ano Una - was recently reviewed in these pages, and now brother Carlos is about to debut his first feature, Rudo Y Cursi.

Now, while this is his feature debut Carlos is no stranger to film. He's shot a number of shorts and was also the script writer on Y Tu Mama Tambien, the film that cemented Alfonso's international reputation while also being largely responsible for launching it's two young and then unknown stars into the upper echelon of international film stars. Those two young men were Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna and now the pair are reuniting - and Bernal will be singing - in Cuaron's film Rudo Y Cursi, soon to take a bow at Sundance.

The two play brothers in a comedy revolving around football and if you want more than that, then I direct you to the trailer below the break.

Definitely looking forward to this. Though you might want to change the Alfonso attribution over to Children of Men instead of City of Men.

God no.....ok, this might not make a lot of sense for some viewers, but the whole basis of this movie is playing along with over-used local stereotypes. Gael and Luna are hyped up beyond belief over here (Mexico) in pretty much anything they make, regardless of the quality. I don't like the scripts of the Cuaron brothers at all (Y Tu mama tambien comes to mind, ugh) so yeah, i'm not watching this at all.
