First Footage Arrives For Tarik Saleh's METROPIA!

by Todd Brown, December 20, 2008 12:07 AM

METROPIA is taking place in a not-so-distant, terrifying Europe. The world is running out of oil and the net of undergrounds has been connected, creating a gigantic web underneath Europe. Roger from Farsta (a suburb of Stockholm) tries to stay away from the underground. He thinks it’s unpleasant and he sometimes hear strange voices in is head.

One day Roger finds out that his life is controlled in every detail. He tries to break free. To succeed he needs super-model Nina to help him. Or is it maybe Nina that needs Roger?

It's still not a trailer but the first footage for Tarik Saleh's Swedish animation Metropia! Swedish television recently aired a five minute profile of the film and included footage from a number of scenes scattered throughout. Thoughts? Franz Kafka's mind would have just been blown, were he still alive. Juliette Lewis, Vincent Gallo and Stellan Skarsgard provide the voice so there should be at least a fighting chance of North American release. Check it out below the break.

Wow, it actually looks really good, better than I thought based on the images at least.

And he's speaking mainly about how they've made the animations, image by image. 4 images per second, apparently. The movie will be around 1 h 20m long, and the cast is based on real people.

He said 24 images per second, not 4 :P

I am game. Even if it is a long wait till it gets to these American shores.

Ehe, just checking to make sure you pay attention. Honestly!

He starts off by saying
"In animated movies, the cost is the same to blow up an entire house, as it does to make these to kiss each other."
Which is a nice way to put it. Apart from that its mostly about the tedium of animation.

Looks good though.
