An American Film Geek’s Bottom 3 of 2008

by Jim Tudor, December 31, 2008 2:36 PM

And now the fun part. Since I only saw twenty-four 2008 films at the time of this writing, I thankfully managed to avoid most of the clunkers. But a few did slip by the quality control filters.

1. The Happening

M. Night Shyamalan tries to recover from the “Lady in the Water” debacle with a supposedly hard “R” rated horror film, but instead only finds himself chasing the wind. Some of the most dreadful miscasting in recent memory, and an amazingly embarrassing overall effort.

2. Punisher War Zone

Delivering the kind of unique cinematic flair one can only get from a Kickboxing Champion.

3. The X-Files: I Want to Believe

What should have been the ultimate capper to the X-Files legacy was instead a limp fizzle. Painfully inept, and woefully insignificant, “I Want to Believe” may very well prove to be the pathetic final gasp of a once-great franchise.

Narrowly avoiding the kind of public scorning I’ve heaped onto the above three films are “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and “Zack & Miri Make a Porno”. Those stunk too, just to a lesser cumulative degree of stinkage.

So that’s a wrap on my lists. Not my finest moment here at Twitch, but what do you want for free?? Have a swell 2009, and don’t let the Man get you down.

Putting a Shyamalan film in a bottom list is too easy....but still very true.
