Korea Gives Out Their Awards Hardware ...

by Todd Brown, November 22, 2008 12:01 AM

Korea's Blue Dragon Awards have come and gone and not surprising is that Kim Ji-Woon's The Good The Bad And The Weird was the most awarded film, taking home a total of four prizes. What is a bit of a surprise - and I'm sure this comes as a bit of a personal wake up call to Kim - is that none of those awards were for either Best Script (Crush and Blush) or Best Picture (Forever The Moment), so it would seem that Korean critics agree that while the film is a whole lot of fun it is also surprisingly shallow for a Kim picture. Other big winners include The Chaser (Best Actor), My Wife Got Married (Best Actress), Miss Gold Digger (Best Newcomer Actress), and the Kim Ki-Duk scripted and produced Rough Cut (Best Newcomer Actors, shared between its leads).

For the record, these 'Best Newcomer' awards are a fantastic idea and one that the Academy should look seriously at adopting for the Oscars.

You're talking about Good, Bad, Weird Hunter Rose? IFC have it and will definitely be doing a release of it but MGM is threatening legal action over the name, claiming it infringes on The Godd The Bad and The Ugly. Not sure if they've actually filed suit or are just threatening but that'll have to be dealt with before the release.

Thanks Todd,
Yeah I was talking about GB&W;- but if what you are saying is true - that's rediculous! I can't imagine that there's any real competition with a film that's some 40+ years old. Besides how can you copyright on words like "Good" and "Bad"?

Anyway, I loved the film and am looking forward to seeing it again.
