AFM: First Thoughts On POT and JOM's HUMANS

by Todd Brown, November 9, 2008 4:18 AM

Freshly arrived at the American Film Market I began making my first pass through the main market building today and one of my first stops was at the booth of new startup sales outfit Overlook Entertainment. Expect to hear a LOT from these people in the near future as their slate is already an expansive and extremely impressive one featuring most of the top young names in European genre film making right now. And while I checked out a few things there I absolutely could not leave the room without first seeing the new promo reel for Humans - or Humains in French, the directorial debut from a duo calling themselves POT and JOM, best known before know as the key effects men on Inside.

Based on the duo's connection to that film initial expectations ere that this one would also lay on the ultra-gore but that is looking not to be the case. What Humans actually is is much more a man against nature survival thriller with a scientific expedition tacking the origins of some mysterious prehistoric bones that could alter our understanding of human evolution. More than that I shall not say but the production values are excellent, the cast is strong - it always makes me happy to see Dominique Pinon out there doing his thing - and I'm anxious to see more. With the film hitting French screens in April it shouldn't be long before we get a proper trailer.
