As anyone who knows me - or is a regular reader of this site - can tell you, I have a fairly significant weakness to films that muck about with religious ideas and issues. Regardless of what the point or perspective is if you give me something that handles the subject matter with a reasonable degree of intelligence - i.e. is not based on a novel by Dan Brown - and I'll give it a pretty long, hard look. And so, I was rather happy to be steered in the direction of Camino, a film that is rapidly becoming one of the big buzz titles in Spain, in no small part because it deals with Opus Dei, the same sect that the aforementioned Brown takes a good rip or two at in his books.
The trailer for this one almost feels like it could be three films wrapped up in one. At first we begin with the coming of age story of a lovely young girl pushing against the restrictions of her ultra-religious family. And then we get the medical tragedy, wherein the religious element becomes more pronounced and not necessarily in a very nice way. And then? And then depending on your perspective the girl begins to have either dreams or visions of the apocalyptic variety and things get right funky. It's an intriguing looking picture and you can find the trailer below the break in the Twitch Player.
