The title says it all, really. The Asylum are the company behind all of those obviously cloned movie titles that you see lining the shelves of your local video shop, they're entire business model based on cranking out cheap knock offs of major blockbuster titles. And with the release of the Keanu Reeves' starring remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still just around the corner, The Asylum have jsut released a trailer for their own The Day The Earth Stopped. I'd say that C Thomas Howell and Judd NElson were slumming it in this but it's not like they're getting any other work these days.
Check the trailer below the break in the Twitch Player.

Is there really money in this kind of stuff? I there really interest? The film is obviously made on the cheap. But there's no real way to make this kind of stuff for nothing. I still imagine there's a few hundred thousand bucks involved, which is still a big investment.
Are there really people renting/buying these knock offs? While it looks like it promises some discreet nudity and a hot alien, I don't get the point. If it were loaded with over the top violence and shitloads of tits and what not. I can see guilty pleasure fun to be had.
Interesting side note: this is currently the most popular page on the website other than the front page itself. So, yeah, people are curious about these things ...
Not only does C Thomas Howell star in some of these, he directs some of these as well.
I saw Invasion From Mars 2: The next wave and it did have some decent CGI, especially the aerial fight sequences. The rest of the film looked like ass and was boring as hell. Asylum needs to invest in some proper sound stuff cause I noticed how terrible the sound design was in the film.
These must make some cash otherwise Asylum wouldn't be doing this.
Oh the sound design is atrocious in most of their stuff. I remember seeing in the extras for Night of the Dead ( Reanimator ripoff... and yes I watched the extras ), the sound guy was explaining how he did the sound design for one of the zombies chomping her teeth, and he simply clicked his teeth together. I was like "ooooh that's what that retarded clicking sound was supposed to be". Awesome.
