First Trailer for Wu Jing's LEGENDARY ASSASSIN **UPDATE**

by Al Young, September 13, 2008 10:12 PM

If I gotta choose a torchbearer for the next kick ass actor in Hong Kong actioner, Wu Jing would easily be high on my candidate list. Some pop singer/actor who attempt to pass off as the raising new action star doesn't cut it for me whereas Wu, who trained in martial arts since he was young, has believable on-screen fight presence and charisma as already proven in SPL, Invisible Target and Fatal Contact. In the much awaited martial arts thriller Legendary Assassin, Wu will also get a chance to display his directorial chops for the first time, alongside action choreographer Nicky Li. Based on the trailer, the sweet action scene further validate why I believe Wu is the real deal. The rest of the cast member include Celina Jade, Kou Zhan Wen (a fellow Wushu teammate of Wu), Alex Fong and giant wrestler Jiang Bao Cheng. Heres the synopsis from Easternlight Films:

Cop Holly believes that for some people doing the right thing isn't just a duty or an obligation, it's who they are, and when mysterious drifter Bruce helps her capture four runaway convicts hiding on her island, she thinks he's just like her, one of the good guys.

Holly and the rest of the police praise Bruce for his assistance, and welcomed as a friend he considers settling down on the island until more strangers arrive looking for him. Shortly afterwards a decapitated body is discovered and when Bruce immediately disappears it's apparent that he's the killer. Holly's dismayed, even when she learns that the victim was a ruthless criminal.

The new arrivals reveal themselves to be none other than colleagues of the victim, mobsters after revenge, and they force Bruce to come out of hiding by taking Holly hostage. Once again Bruce comes to Holly's aid and once again they fight together and defeat a common enemy, but when the smoke clears Holly faces her toughest fight of all, the fight between her feelings for Bruce and her duty as a cop to take him in.

Filming has been completed and its scheduled for a November release in China and Hong Kong. You'll find the trailer at our Twitch player after the jump.

UPDATE: Celina Jade has recently posted the international trailer (Cantonese with English subtitles and narration) on her blog site. Check it out after the jump.

This certainly seems like something out of my book. Looking forward to see if I'm right about that.

Good, better this than more movies with canto pop idols.

awesome!!!!!!!!!

Not bad at all. Just horribly dubbed.
And Celine Jade? Are there no more talented young actresses in HK?

celina jade's probably there by paco wong's command. ronald cheng & alex fong make it a full house (eek). some the slo-mo walk thru rain shots are wu jing at his most iconic. looks like he solved that problem! looking forward to it

Good to see Wujing taking the starring role for once and judging by the trailer its the sort of movie that plays to his strengths. The slo-mo in the rain looks excellent and very iconic.

Looks pretty 'meh' to be honest. Wu Jing is very talented though, so I'm sure the action won't disappoint.

Shame that the HK Studios seem to ruin any chance of his films being international by making it solely for HK and with such bad, sugar puff casts etc. I totally didn't say that right but yeah. Just woke up.

Wu Jing is the man though.

I hope that someone in the US other than The Weinstien Co brings Wu Jing's Legendary Assassain over here. I really liked his performance in SPL...Maybe Wu Jing can do another film with Wilson Yip, as the lead instead of as the villain.

Kinda suggests that there will be a mere few scraps on the go, which is a trend they aught to buck in HK right now. Flash Point would have been far better with a few more throwdowns and alot less banter.

Wu Jing is a great athlete, but i don't think he can carry a movie.

Wu Jing's been on the scene more than long enough to get a crack at directing and he seems to generally be pretty sharp. I approve of this.

Wu Jing is the ONE! Back when Wu Jing was annointed the next martial arts action star out of HK, I was not too convinced. I never doubted his ability especially after watching Sha Po Lang, but he seemed to lack a certain charisma to be that star. I believed he would be better left to just be the bad guy. But this trailer is kind of swaying me, and I hope it turns out as good as it looks.

looks extremely stupid.
