The Apocalypse Is All Too Real When You Head EAST

by Todd Brown, August 3, 2008 2:58 AM

Want to add that extra bit of realism to your post apocalyptic film? Do what Poland's Stefan Kubicki did: shoot it in Chernobyl. Kubicki's East puts the apocalypse in an entirely new light. Rather than cast the event as some high concept happening in a remote future he simply recognizes that in certain parts of the world it's already happened.

It's about two estranged friends meeting for one last time in a desolate, post-apocalyptic Europe under UN quarantine. We filmed several scenes in the Chernobyl Zone of Alienation and the rest in Poland.

It's a simple effective bit of work. You can check the trailer below the break in the Twitch Player.

That looks pretty good. Reminds me of 'Hour of the Wolf,' if that's what it's called. The Haneke post-apocalypsey movie.

The mono song was a nice touch.
