Stunning Full Theatrical Trailer For DER BAADER MEINHOF KOMPLEX!

by Todd Brown, August 26, 2008 12:40 AM

Back in July we posted the first teaser for upcoming German true-life action drama Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. The film tells the real story of the Red Army Faction, a terrorist group that plagued Germany throughout the late sixties and early seventies, orchestrating assassinations and bombings throughout the nation. That early teaser was impressive enough in its own right but the full theatrical trailer has now also arrived and it is absolutely jaw dropping. Not only does this look to be a complex treatment of a serious and topical issue but it is blessed with a stellar cast and the technical end - the film is evidently loaded with enough gun play, car chases and explosions to keep even those raised on the films of Michael Bay happy - is positively astounding. This looks stunning. Absolutely stunning. You'll find both the teaser and trailer below the break in the Twitch Player.

Breathtaking trailer, one of the best I've seen for a long time. I'd love to see a subtitled version (my knowledge of the German language extends to a few Rammstein songs!), and that's definately one to put on the radar.
Any idea of a release date for this?

Thanks for your short review, anton! :) I have to say though I'm not too surprised. I mean, really, Uli Edel and Bernd Eichinger? Also, it always strikes me as a tad suspicious, if a film is star-studded to that extent...
I might still go and see it, for the entertainment factor you mention, but I'll probably pass on it.

I can see how German audiences might consider Der Untergang to be "needless" (in contrast, I do not understand the "totally disappointing" at all!), but for many foreign audiences it was an eye-opener.

Even in the Netherlands, where we get pummeled by WW-II documentaries every year around May (our liberation month, when we also commemorate the fallen soldiers of that war), "Der Untergang" made quite an impact. I was impressed, in fact this is the first negative sound I've heard about it.
Is this the general consensus in Germany?

the general consensus in the "left" press was that it's a needless movie since so many more stories (and more important) about WWII appear and it was being discussed if it is not a little selfish to show a blockbuster with Hitler as the main protagonist and give him enough breathing room to appear human. it is also historically inaccurate in many cases as picked out by more indepth reviews (i won't link here, try google).
apart from that it's shameless oscar bait (confirmed by producer) and has no other reason to exist than Eichinger wanting an oscar (he should have used an KZ setting like "Die Fälscher", Austria, hahahahaha) and Bruno Ganz wanting to play Hitler and then give 30minutes interviews about "becoming the monster".
it's just a vanity project and I think it shows every minute of the movie.
it's an good-made fkn waste of time.
go see "Hasenjagd" instead.

try to translate that:

it has some valid points. And when you mean GeneralConsensus in Germany with majority of press, then yeah, they loved the movie for all the above reasons: not historical accurate, small scope, actor for hitler is awesome.......????
while on the other hand the same people claim in the newspapers that: "enough is enough, we should stop that dreaded topic about WWII and move on".

seems as long as you can clap yourself on the shoulder, look: he's just a funny mad man and Eva just a tad naive, it's OK but if you get to the meat of the story: COLLOBERATION accross all parts of society (like Hasenjagd ) it's no longer report-worthy.

so no, general consensus is the movie is awesome, but small, critical and investigated minority nitpicks it but it's only a movie, it will be forgotten soon. just like this one.
