My thanks to Don Brown at Ryuganji for calling attention to upcoming Yoshitaka Yuriko star vehicle Snakes and Earrings. You may not know Yoshitaka's name yet, but I guarantee you will soon. She plays a key part in Sion Sono's Noriko's Dinner Table and is an absolutely brilliant ball of manic energy in Miki Satoshi's Adrift in Tokyo. This looks to be Yoshitaka's first step into a lead role and the material is very strong, the young actress playing a 'normal' young woman drawn into the world of tattooing and body modification. The first teaser is available and though it is a touch on the brief side it's very compelling stuff. You'll find it below the break in the Twitch Player.

You're right Todd there wasn't all that much in the trailer but there were a few visual gems to be seen for sure.
The piercing scene at the end made me laugh a bit (not because of the effectiveness of the trailer though), it reminded me of when I watched a buddy get his tongue pierced a LONG time ago.
This chick took the pain A LOT better!! LOL :)
Hitomi Kanehara wrote the novella. I believe most of the hype over the book was owing to the author's young age and gender. Broken down, the novella follows the narrative of a 19 year old hostess as she becomes involved in the piercing and tattoo-ing subculture via her relationships with her boyfriend (serpent tongued and pierced, oh my) and a tattoo artist (who barters his work for sexual favors). A doomed punk love triangle. _Sid and Nancy_ meets _Tokyo Fist_ it's not.
Think the title would more correctly be Pierce the Snake. Or Piercing/Earring in Snake...
Weirdest part about watching that was that a few years ago, it would have looked all exotic and dreamy... now, I watched it thinking "That's Shibuya. So's that... did I see this shot just the other day? How many times have I seen THAT scene?".
And I haven't even hit two years here yet.
Not the piecing stuff, mind you, but read a couple pages of modblog and you'll be desensitized enough to barely even register that last scene.
