WOW. This looks awesome. I'm really happy to see this come to life like this. It's faithful, but not done to the point of idiocy. It looks pretty hardcore too, which let's face it, it needs to be.

I'm stoked.

"from the VISIONARY DIRECTOR of 300"

GROAN.

i don't feel it's faithful in any way to the book. the look is all wrong and not in the spirit of what the story is about. Zack Snyder is all about slickness and style. visually he has shown no grasp of the dark edges of the story.

i'm sorry but this is all just so wrong.

but what the hell am i getting all worked up for? Alan Moore sold the movie rights to the book and is laughing all the way to the bank, despite hating all the adaptations of his books. i get nothing.

so far so good, still have my expectations set low to avoid heartbreak though

looks like Batman wannabe meet Fantastic4 meet Sincity to me..
why woman protagonist looks like a "ho" ??
i will pass this...

@Visitor
Well no actually. Moore isn't getting one cent from these adaptions because he has refused payment for them. Instead he wants all the money that he was supposed to get to go to the artists that helped him with the books.

And Amyonn. I take it that you have no idea what Watchmen is?

seems snyder reimagined Watchmen as an image comic. complete with spandex leather and maybe a spawn cameo down the line ? no, kiddin', well it certainly does not look like the comic. he uses a similar color scheme (secondary ones) but this looks more like a underwear fashion commercial than watchmen.
i remember being pumped after the 300 trailer as well and came head-scratching out of the cinema. let's hope he doesn't reinterpret the story as well. I'm cautiously pessimistic about this one.

i'm sadly confirmed in my opinions of Snyder, and i agree with The Visitor...

" visionary director"

i mean do they honestly believe that themselves?

user-pic

Looked good to me, but I have to agree also with The Visitor on one point: I'm still not convinced of Snyder's talent. As good as this looks in the trailer, if the story gets shorted in any way or the style comes off too slick it could be a train wreck. This is one of the three most important comic books in all of comic history, after all. You can't just go around messing it.

*the other two comic books are The Dark Night Returns and Amazing Fantasy 14. IMHO

Since Snyder's only made one remake and two adaptions of comic books so far, I wouldn't call him 'visionary' yet either. Once he's made something totally original that blows everyone's minds, then he can earn that title completely. The Watchmen trailer looks pretty good. Very slick. Though I remember in the comic book that the heroes (particularly the Night Owl) were sometimes embarrassed with their costumes. The ones they wear in the movie look more slickly designed and stylish so I don't know how that point is going to come across. Well, that's just one of the few small reservations I have after seeing the trailer, but I'll still give the benefit of the doubt. The story is full of great stuff that I can't wait to see unfold on screen.

I am ashamed to say I have not read the comic book yet but I intend to before this comes out.

Looks kinda promising from the perspective of someone who hasn't read it yet.

"Could be next summer’s The Dark Night!"

that is so insulting to Mr Nolan!

user-pic

I mean no disrespect to Nolan, he's made the best superhero film of all time. The Dark Night will be remembered as the film that tore down the barriers between "film" and "comic-book film". It's also sure to remain as the singular moment that erased the torrid live-action garbage-fests that were Batman movies before it(besides Batman Begins which WAS my favourite superhero flick before TDK).
What I mean is that The Watchmen will be THE movie to see next year, and will be another solid entry in serious comic-to-film adaptations. I think people have become overly-critical and spoiled as far as these movies go. Does anyone remember the original Captain America? or the Corman Fantastic Four? Hell, even the Burton Batmans were pretty fuckin' weak! Studios seem to be really starting to catch on that this is a genre that people actually take seriously and that THEY need to take seriously. This summer has seen a great shift from action-action-action superhero stuff to character-driven-action stuff. Hellboy 2, Iron Man, The Dark Night, and to a lesser extent The Incredible Hulk have proven that these films are becoming a driving force behind hollywood and I for one, say it's about fuckin' time they've started treating the fans with a little respect. Comics and Geek-related(minus video games) stories and characters are generally so viciously guarded by their fans because there's something there to truly love. It's nice to see so much love being given back by people who are adapting this type of material...

holy shit....that was a rant and a half....sorry 'bout that! :D

Dude, what the hell ?

I found it funny that a trailer showed prior to Dark Knight used a song from Batman & Robin, although a different and better rendition of it.
