Note to western film companies: this is how you do it. The UK's Metrodome Pictures is poised to release Feng Xiaogang's much acclaimed war blockbuster this week, a mere three months after it first opened in Chinese theaters, with a UK DVD release following in April. Which means, for a much welcome change, Western audiences - in the UK at least - will be able to see the film as it was meant to be seen before the market is flooded with Hong Kong DVDs and bootlegs. Seems an obvious plan if you want to successfully market a film such as this in the West but it's amazing how few companies have figured it out so far ...
Anyway, the film looks stunning and has drawn very high critical praise wherever it has been seen. Metrodome have passed along the UK trailer for the film which you will find embedded int he Twitch Player below the break along with the longer Chinese trailer.

On top of those appalling propaganda war films we regularly get from Blue America, we'll now have to suffer through appalling propaganda war films from Red China. Shame on all of them. The horrors of war should be decried, not romanticized through the "gritty," "realistic" depiction of men sacrificing themselves for what are always biased, deluded, self-aggrandizing ideals.
You obviously haven't seen this film.
