What a difference a shift in perspective can make. Through Canadian eyes it is more than a little strange to see a bio-pic about the life and flying adventures of the Red Baron - German flying ace and a true legend who flew against the Allies - labeled as being an inspirational story but hey, all's fair in love and war, right? And this is definitely a war story made by people in love with their subject. A major German blockbuster due for release there in April, The Red Baron very clearly has its eyes set on the international market, so much so that the film plays with a significant amount of English dialog, enough at least for them to cut a fully English trailer. But whatever language its in and whatever perspective it casts on the events it portrays the basic reality is that people are going to come to this film for one main reason: the aerial dogfights. And they look absolutely incredible. The action sequences are handled with a blend of CG and practical effects and they are jaw dropping. Good god, i hope this gets on to the big screen here because there's no way DVD will do these visuals justice ...

I hope that German cinema doesn't follow the vfx way like hollywood did or else the story will come in second.By the way Cinema 4D is German isn't it?So why don't they have more vfx movies?Or do they all cross to the other side...direction Hollywood?
Well there's been some nice VFX stuff in TV movies recently. Don't know what's Cinema's problem over here. I'm crossing:)

DiVeRsItYofChEaSe, please remember we do a lot of coverage on mainstream drama as well, not just genre. Last year we dedicated multiple articles on "Das Leben des Anderen", because it was a good movie which didn't seem to get a wide release in the States.
Well, we can't accurately predict all the Oscars, but that's besides the point. What is the point? The point is: we're looking for, as todd calls it, "The Good Stuff", meaning any good movies we might miss out on because they won't be generally released in the big cinemas. One of the reasons we have so much 'genre' at this site is because the same thing that happens to great non-English movies also happens to genre movies: they get overlooked (or rather: underseen).
Twitch is meant to be a site where the reader can find the movies they won't read about in general media.
So what may be mainstream for you might be the most coveted treasure for us!
