Have I mentioned recently that I love Garth Jennings' Son of Rambow? Because I do. I freaking love this movie, as in I luuuuurv it, as in I absolutely adore it. All the things that Michel Gondry wanted to say about the importance of creativity and community in Be Kind Rewind - and failed to do so, in my opinion, thanks to Jack Black's shtick running way too thin and Gondry's own uber-sloppy script that fails to earn the emotional payoff it wants - Garth Jennings says here, plus a whole lot more. Plus it's charming, inventive, touching, laugh hard enough that it hurts funny, and it's also got Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright tucked away in a brief cameo. Lots of filmy goodness, plus Edgar. Now that's hard to beat.
Anyway, I meant to point out the fab trailer when it first appeared a while back and failed to do so at the time because sometimes my brain just doesn't work so well but I'm making amends now. The trailer is up on the film's official website, it is still fab, and while there you can learn all about the short films contest Hammer and Tongs - the production company - are about to launch. Oh, okay, I'll tell you about it here. It goes like this. Make a short film. Send it to Hammer and Tongs. If they like it, it goes on the Son of Rambow DVD. Sweet!

wow that's sold me on this more than any write up I've read in long time
Fun-Tastic film that's filled with all the little quirks and visual flourishes that work for the story instead of against it. Garth Jennings should stick to the smaller scaled films instead of the big beasts, his style seems much more complementary in the former.
