Behind the Scenes Video for THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM

by Al Young, March 23, 2008 4:03 AM

Let's not kid ourselves about The Forbidden Kingdom. We all know the main draw in this fantasy adventure movie is to see Jackie Chan and Jet Li tearing up a storm with their awesome martial arts ability. For a little taste of the action, there is a "Kung Fu Superstars" featurette exclusively on Yahoo! Movies that provide a behind the scenes look at Jackie and Jet working with Yuen Woo Ping on the choreography for the fight scenes. Its truly a thing of beauty to watch two master go at it like two legendary jazz musicians grooving together in perfect harmony. You’ll find the video embedded below after the break or here.

I really hope this movie doesn't fail horribly. I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li, it would be nice to see them team up to make an over the top kung fu movie, but I just don't see it happening with this movie.

I hope the comic relief in this movie isn't so over the top it suffocates any decent fan.

Isn't this the filme where Jackie Chan, himself, of all people, freely admitted that people "should not expect too much from it?". This can only turn out as a disappointment of 10,000 BC (i.e. mammoth, ha ha) dimensions.

Chan and Li plan 2nd film together
News | by Albert Valentin | 2008.03.19

Many fans are anticipating the April release of THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, the first ever collaboration between international action superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The film has not been out yet, but at the Hong Kong International Film Mart on March 18, both Jackie Chan and Jet Li confirmed that they are in fact, planning a second film together.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li in THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM

According to both Chan and Li, the duo met 15 years ago at the Golden Harvest studios. In that prolific meeting, they came up with the idea of a film that star the two action icons. The plot of this movie has changed, but the storyline remains intact. As with THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, both Chan and Li will face off against each other again, but hopes with the new film to kick it up a notch. Li also wants Jaycee Chan, Jackie Chan’s son, to co-star in this planned film.

Chan recently wrapped principle photography on THE SHINJUKU INCIDENT, a dramatic film from director Derek Yee Tung-Shing (PROTEGE), while Li has opted to take 2008 off to concentrate on his charity work. Li will hit screens again this summer as the villain in THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR.

THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM will be released in U.S. theaters on April 18, 2008.

Wow, I suppose when these two guys crossed paths at GH they banged out 3 or 4 scripts and quite possibly a secret and especially delicious recipe for a crispy fried chicken and the formula for an award-winning microbrewed ale. You know, just in case they weren't happy with some crackerized version of JOURNEY TO THE WEST they signed onto in a moment of confusion 13 or so years later.

I'd love to see a movie called ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE GOLDEN HARVEST CAFETERIA, since apparently a lot of really intriguing stuff went down there like Sammo Hung (briefly) fighting Bruce Lee and Jet Li and Jackie Chan working on a, well, secret manuscript..

No way do they hate the movie. those quotes are given in interviews speaking to their Asian fans, then translated into short english sound bites. Both of them have talked about how much fun they had shooting the movie. Jet Li even worked on the script with the screenwriter. I don't know why people wanna bash it just because it's westernized. No it isn't a pure Asian film but let it be what it is and it'll be awesome. At least that's how I see it. Plus, that fight scene alone will be epic.
