The nominations for this year's Hong Kong Film Awards have been announced and it comes as no surprise that Peter Chan's Jet Li / Andy Lau / Takeshi Kaneshiro starring blockbuster epic The Warlords stands ready to dominate the proceedings with thirteen nominations. What may surprise some, though, is that it's not the leading nominee - Derek Yee's Protege drew fifteen nominations though, frankly, I'll be shocked if it takes very many from The Warlords based on profile, critical response and star power. Both films drew Best Picture nods with The Postmodern Life Of My Aunt, Mad Detective and the greatly under appreciated Eye In The Sky rounding out the five nominees. Good on Johnnie To's Milkyway Image landing two of the five Best picture noms and here's hoping the nomination breaths some new life into the well deserving Eye in the Sky.
