A Trailer for THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM

by Al Young, February 10, 2008 3:15 AM

Rob Minkoff's The Forbidden Kingdom is an upcoming fantasy adventure film that we been attentively keeping a close eye on and the main reason is its the first pairing of Jackie Chan and Jet Li. As a big-time martial arts fan, I have been waiting to see these two action greats share the screen together for a long time and with Yuen Woo-ping on board as fight choreographer, this is a match-up made in heaven. The potential for some kick ass fights had me drooling with anticipation. However, when I saw the last teaser posted online in December, I was devastated to see the majority of the exposure went to a kid. I wanted to see Jackie and Jet work their magic and not regulated as second fiddle. So at this point, I had strong reservation but deep down, I was still clinging on to hope that it won't disappoint. Then a new trailer has been unveiled on Yahoo! Movies yesterday and this time, I'm back to being excited all over again. Some of the shots with Jackie and Jet duking it out and the fantastic sets of ancient China has restore my faith. We also get to see Collin Chou get some screen time, playing as a wicked warlock. The only character absence is the Monkey King which I assume will reveal itself in the film. Check out the trailer in embedded flash or in quicktime HD at the link below.

The release date is on April 18th.

Yeah, a bit better for sure. Jackie and Jet have gotten older and so have we all. And I am a bit put off that this is a coming-of-age training film (at least implied here) with an apparently American kid getting the sifu treatment. But, it's fairly big budget and at least Jackie and Jet are moving into 'mentor' phase with some Kung Fu intact. In the Shaw Bros films, the older fighters (not to mention the old dude in Drunken Master 2 - Jackie's Film) were always good to watch. Even with age, their movements were precise (and how older actors sell their action chops improves with age.) So, until otherwise noted, am also looking forward to this film. Thanks mucho for keeping an eye out and posting this.

Thanks, Al. The new trailer is AWESOME! I want to see more of that fight! I get the feeling this is closer to the movie than the teaser, which was on the goofy side. Zwanster, the kid doesn't become the Monkey King. I read somewhere that Jet is playing two roles - Silent Monk and the Monkey King.

Ah I see, so I guess the kid is just along for the ride then. I'm sort of looking forward to it I guess, it does look wonderful I must admit but I'll reserve excitement incase its a huge dissapointment.

Well I got major goosebumps in this trailer, thanks for the head up!

People please, lower you're expectations. You can already bet that the following will happen:

-White kid will turn into a kick-ass martial artist god, maybe even better than his masters, and will save the day at the end
-Un-funny "funny" jokes aimed towards the kiddie audience
-That brat is gonna get that asian chick booty for sure
-Other assorted missrepresentations of asian culture

At least i hope that the fights are really solid, and long enough. Looking foward to see Collin Chou against Jet, and goes without saying, Jet against Jackie.

At the risk of pissing someone off... atleast the kid isn't Shai LaBeouf.

I thought the trailer looked ok though, but it seems like they might over do it with the comic relief.

i have no idea if it is going to be a good movie, but one thing is for sure, this movie will be a boxoffice succes.

SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO. I bet you loved The Matrix back in 2000.

I would have preferred if Shia "The Beef" was in the lead because he's got some charisma and has a pretty good comic timing when that's called for. If anyone else had starred in Transformers I don't think I would have liked it as much as I did.
The kid in this film did nothing for me in the trailer.

I liked parts of it (The Matrix) but the fights were anything but fluid. They felt chopped in many ways, and it just hasn't endured well the time test.

I hated Kill Bill right from the start.

I was actually going to say "Big Trouble in little China" as a fun martial arts oriented western flick, and i was thinking more people would say it. Way better example.
