Recently we had three of Hong Kong's biggest directors play the game of cadavre exquis in Triangle. Well now, Singapore aims to make the mother-of-all-cadavre exquis-films, with no less than SEVEN filmmakers making 10- to 12-minute segments!
The film, Lucky 7, is premiering at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The concept was created by director Sun Koh, who was inspired by the spirit of collaboration among the Malaysian independent filmmakers. One actor, Sunny Pang, last seen in Koh's sexy short Bedroom Dancing, carried the character through whatever the seven filmmakers came up with for him. And the catch was, each filmmaker was only allowed to know the last minute of the preceding segment. It's pretty much a free-for-all. And the result is a multiple-genre, multiple-language exercise in bringing together the filmmakers of the island state.
The film goes home to compete at the Singapore International Film Festival in April.
