Designed as a not-for-profit project to raise awareness both of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Darfur and the western world's general indifference to it, John Kramer's Sing For Darfur is a sort of docu-drama bringing together film makers from Spain and the Netherlands. Here's the synopsis:
The film takes place in the city of Barcelona on one day. It starts in the morning and it ends late at night. During this day, we will follow the lives of 30 different people and see how they are connected to each other and Darfur. It will show how busy we all are with ourselves and our own little worlds. It seems that nowadays every ‘free’ moment is taken by mobile phones, television, emails, ipods, meetings, playstation, gameboys, second lives etc. It seems that there’s hardly any time to relax, contemplate, think and most important….feel. What’s your feeling about that? We often get so wrapped up in the importance of money or other things in life that we sometimes forget about the most important little things. Sing for Darfur will probably & hopefully act as a mirror for the busy busy people amongst us. And let’s hope the calm folks will appreciate it as well…
The politics in this are very earnest and very overt - a combination that will no doubt irritate some - but it no doubt a worthwhile topic of conversation and we've got the first trailer below the break in the Twitch Video Player.
