Raimi Taking The Helm of THE HOBBIT? Maybe, But First It's DRAG ME TO HELL!

Big, big news for fans of Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi ... actually, it's two bits of huge news.

First, Sam Raimi is returning to the world of low budget horror to direct Drag Me To Hell, a "spook-a-blast" picture that he co-wrote with his brother Ivan shortly after shooting Army of Darkness. The film is the story of someone hit by a supernatural curse and will be produced by Raimi's Ghost House pictures, which means he'll have free rein to do pretty much whatever he wants.

The second bit of big news? Well, how about this line in the Variety article announcing Drag Me To Hell:

After "Drag Me to Hell," Raimi is expected to go right back up the mountaintop and take the helm of "The Hobbit" films for New Line and MGM now that Peter Jackson has made it clear he won't direct.

That's right kids. Peter Jackson will be sitting in the producer's chair on the Hobbit films and it looks as though Raimi will be directing, and how's that for a one-two punch of former splatter directors made good? Zowie.

(The low budget splatter film, I don't really want to see a HOBBIT film made, (most especially not by Jackson or Raimi).
