Many thanks to Michael for pointing out an upcoming retrospective of the works of Japan's Kiju Yoshida at the Centre Pompidou in Paris through April and May of 2008. Why is this noteworthy? Yoshida was one of the leaders of the Japanese New Wave but his work is still almost completely unknown outside of Japan and, as part of this retrospective, French DVD label Carlotta will be releasing Yoshida's complete works on DVD - the very first time, apparently, that his films have been available on DVD outside of Japan. So ... Masters of Cinema, Criterion, I'm looking at you: the transfers are out there, let's get them in English friendly form.
You'll find a trailer for Yoshida's Woman In The Lake embedded below the break.
