We love us some Kankuro Kudo around here. The man has had his fingers in a lot of classic pies ranging from Ping Pong to Zebraman, both of which he wrote, up to Yaji and Kita, which he wrote and directed. Kudo's great gift is his ability to meld zany situations with entirely believable characters that ring emotionally true and thanks to that gift he's managed to turn out a string of cult hits with a remarkable degree of depth. His latest offering in Maiko Haaan!, which played the 2007 edition of Fantastic Fest, and those hoping for a chance to see it elsewhere on the continent are about to have their wishes come true. According to Variety the film has just been picked up by Viz, who plan a limited release in 2008 followed by a DVD release.
