A film that has slipped under the radar this year is a French horror comedy written by Jean-Baptiste Andrea whose previous films are Big Nothing and the underrated Dead End. Hellphone opened in France and Belgium earlier in the year but has yet to appear on DVD with english subtitles.

Sid, a high school student, skater and fan of AC/DC, dreams of owning a cellphone. With it, he could seduce Angie, a gorgeous young woman recently arrived from New York who is presently the girlfriend of the school's playboy, Virgile. But the phone Sid buys in a curious Chinese bazaar proves to have strange powers. Hellphone has chosen Sid. Will his friendship with Pierre, his childhood buddy, and his love for Angie be able to resist the passionate relationship between Sid and his telephone? Hellphone grants all your wishes... and more.

I dug DEAD END until the ending insulted me by explaining everything. Still, I'd probably even own the DVD if the R1 weren't an useless pan & scan piece of poo.

Why the hell didn't the want to give it to you? Don't they want their film to travel far and wide?

Strange but true, it happens all the time. Some companies beg you to play their films, others make it as difficult as possible.

And after a little research, the DVD being released on November 13th does include English Subtitles.

'Big Nothing' is pretty cool, but not really 'Hellphone'. It could have been (that's why I saw it in theatre), but it's just stupid :/
