If Norway's Roar Uthaug threw down the gauntlet for Nordic genre film with his Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey) then I think it's pretty safe to say that Patrik Syversen has now picked that gauntlet up and is proceeding to slap everyone else about the head and shoulders with it. We linked to the high definition version of the brand new theatrical trailer for Syversen's Rovdyr (Backwoods) just yesterday and now for those who can't handle the format or just don't want to wait for it to download a standard definition version has been added to the official website for the film. Hell, yeah, this looks really good.

That poster. That trailer. Oh, the love!
I just got to be honest about this. The trailer looks like a bunch of slasher movies I've seen before. Young people on a roadtrip getting killed, man, it took Norway 30 + years to copy all those italian, american etc. slashers? Damn, sorry but my expectations are low. I'm 33 and have seen it all, maybe the pre-teens that don't know TCM, F13 or even Wrong Turn 1 & 2 etc. will enjoy, maybe. To it's defense, maybe the trailer lies, and the movie will have some original twists and turns. I hope so, I really hope so. We need a good norwegian slasher. It has not happened yet! But as far as the trailer goes, no great expectaions.
I've seen clips from the film and they look great. The film will be scored by Simon Boswell and that will bring the film to a new level. The director is also a filmbuff and a true fan of horror. What could go wrong? Unless some silly sodd steals all the material, and the master, so that the film won't be released... The horror, the horror...
