A Website and Trailer For German Animation LISSI UND DER WILDE KAISER

by Todd Brown, October 28, 2007 6:24 AM

Can't say I've ever thought of Germany as a hotbed of animation but this looks like a good one. Lissi und Der Wilde Kaiser has just hit German screens - where it looks to be dominating the local box office - and there's enough talent on display here that the big US studios should be sitting up and taking notice. It's the latest project from well known German comedian Michael "Bully" Herbig, who previously directed Star Trek spoof (T)Raumschiff Surprise - Periode 1 , and looks to carry through his normal blend of slapstick potty humor only this time rendered in CGI animation rather than in live action. And rendered very, very well. It doesn't seem like a stretch to call it a German Shrek.

It doesn't seem like a stretch to call this shameful. But I guess it's a good title to bring up whenever some snob complains about the mind-numbing output of Hollywood while praising European cinema.
