Japanese Martial Arts Fantasy DORORO Finally Arrives With English Subtitles October 4th!

Fantastic news here for fans of martial arts and fantasy films: big budget Japanese blockbuster Dororo is finally making its first appearance on English-friendly DVD October 4th. When the film was picked up by one of the US majors the prospects of an English friendly DVD appearing overseas looked remote and with said major still having no clear idea what they want to do with the film - or, seemingly, even if they want to do anything with it - I was about ready to write this one off and assume it would never be arriving but a long delayed Hong Kong release has just been announced. Based on Tezuka Osamu’s manga the film follows a young man cursed at birth, all of his limbs given over to a series of demons. Later in life, equipped with a full array of prosthetics, he has become a martial arts master and sets off to hunt down and destroy each of the demonic creatures, reclaiming his natural body in the process. Tony Ching (Hero, House of Flying Daggers) is responsible for the martial arts choreography and the trailers are just beautiful.

I have a feeling that the longer we wait, the shorter this movie's going to get.
