Back in early spring, those of us up here in Canada got treated to Jason Eisener and Rob Cotterill's ode to exploitation trailers, Hobo with a Shotgun on the big screen. Complete with Halifax accents and teeth pulling it was planted in front of Grindhouse, amusingly mixed in with the 'normal trailers' for yawners like Next and The Condemned - not with the fake trailers by the other directors commissioned by Tarantino and Rodriguez - although Hobo may just be the best of the bunch. The rest of the world found and savoured the Youtube version.
The Teeth Beneath is a 45 minute feature from the boys shot in 2005 and screened at a festival or two and it is now available for purchase through their website. With their ambitions falling somewhere in between the bravura spirit of both Fulci and early Raimi the the no budget aesthetic from Hobo, they have launched a website for the project that tells you perhaps more than you need to know. It is loaded with clips, photos and sprinkles of humour worthy of folks who were involved in the cult Canadian show Trailer Park Boys.
When a bungled robbery attempt on the local skateboard shop unleashes an unspeakable evil, the hapless employees embark on a mission to recover the missing skateboards and money before opening time. What follows is a blood-soaked orgy of demons, dismemberment, spear guns, skateboarding, buxom wenches, and bananas. Will they open on time? Or be riped apart by the 'Teeth Beneath'.
