I confess to having largely lost interest the Korean genre wave over the past year or so. A string of underwhelming titles has simply sucked the life out of the film world there and I've basically ended up in a holding pattern while waiting for the new titles to arrive from Park Chan Wook, Kim Jee Woon and Ryoo Seung Wan. This, of course, means that I run the risk of quality new titles passing me by and if this review of Shin Tae-ra The Black House is any indicator one very nearly did. The film is an adaptation of a Japanese novel and stars Hwang Jeong-min as a dirty insurance investigator drawn into an absolute nightmare when he visits a claimant in the titular house ... the trailer looks pretty fantastic.
