I'm he same way, actually, or was at first. The book doesn't really do anything with the concept and characters and struck me as really shallow. I'm hoping that the character work has been improved in this and that's the one part of using David Slade to direct it that I initially thought was a good choice. I wasn't convinced he had the technical stuff to do the big action, but he definitely knows character work and I've been taking it as a given that part will be improved with him at the helm. And now this is making me think he can pull off the fancy stuff, too ...
